The Engine 2 Diet

January 17th, 2011 by NashVeggie Leave a reply »

There has been much talk recently about The Engine 2 Diet, a diet started by the Engine 2 Fire Station in Austin, Texas.  It is a complete plant-based diet which, of course, would be vegan though no mention of that is in the book. Likely so nobody is scared away by that militant word: vegan.  I have no tried the recipes in the book nor have I tried the diet.  It is for those who already have a high cholesterol level and are in dire need of a change.  Whole Foods at Coolsprings and Green Hills are starting a 28-day challenge based on The Engine 2 Diet. The first class starts today (January 17) but I was informed that due to the popularity there are other classes scheduled and early sign-ups are highly recommended. (See comment on this post by Ryan from Whole Foods)

If you have tried The Engine 2 Diet or are taking the 28-Day Challenge at Whole Foods I would be interested in hearing about your experience.  Did the diet help you find the results you were looking for? Did you enjoy cooking and eating the recipes? Do you plan on sticking with it past the 28 days? Let me know as I’m always interested in how others find there way to a vegan diet, even when it’s not labeled as such, and the results they get from it.

  1. The Engine 2 – 28 Day Challenge begins tonight in the Salud! at 6:00pm. Registration closed on January 10th and we do not have room to accept any more participants. We will probably be doing it again in the future or you can pick up a coupon (Whole Deal) for the free Eat Right America – 28 Day Challenge, if you want to start a program right away. This is a personalized 28 Day Health Assessment and eating program that you can do on your own.
I am sorry for any confusion.

  2. Linda says:

I have used many diets but only lately attempted to keep on the vegan eating plan. I have got to say that it is not simply a very beneficial way of eating but I have managed to lose in the region of 10 pounds in one month! The weight loss was a bonus as I stayed on the vegan eating plan because I kept on hearing about the main benefits of this diet, I would recommend it to everyone!

  3. Jennifer says:

He calls it a “plant strong” diet and that is because he and his family like to call it that and because yes, the term “vegan” can hold negative connotations and honestly, does not always mean healthy or that it has anything to do with plants (though obviously, it should).

My husband and I went to the screening of Forks Over Knives (the movie his father, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn & T. Colin Campbell created showing how a whole foods, plant-based diet can literally save your life) and it is so inspiring and eye-opening. http://www.forksoverknives.com/about/cast-and-crew/

I have been eating a vegan diet for just about a year now and it has been such a rewarding and wonderful experience. I definitely do not plan to go back!

One thing I wanted to say was this: The Engine 2 Diet is not just for those “who already have a high cholesterol level and are in dire need of a change.” It is for anyone wanting to eat a healthy diet, live longer and feel younger. Anyone eating the Standard American Diet, quite frankly. And yes, it’s vegan and then some. It is especially useful for men or anyone who just wants the facts about a plant-based diet, no fluff.

    That is all. 🙂
