Since the writing of this article it has been pointed out to me by some who work at Burger Up that the Marathon burger mentioned in this article is no longer vegan. One of the ingredients is Worcestershire sauce containing anchovies. Note: Worcestershire sauce is also in the homemade ketchup they serve.
UPDATE: Burger Up is now open. If you have made a visit please take the time to let me know what you thought in the comments.

I have been reading of the new black bean/quinoa burger at Frothy Monkey for a few weeks on Twitter and had a standing reservation for one form Miranda, the owner, for some time but never could make it because of other obligations. This weekend we finally made it on the last day they would be available before the opening of Burger Up just down the street.
My trips to Frothy Monkey have only been for coffee in the past I have never really looked at their menu which has a few vegan selections. The burgers are not on the menu but were on a spur of the moment availability. The burgers can be ordered with a wheat bun or sourdough bread. Those working were unsure if the wheat bun contained honey so we opted for the sourdough. Our burgers were served topped with tomato slices and hummus and a side of tortilla chips and salsa. I’m not a big fan of the black bean veggie burger variety. Usually they are over-spiced with cumin to the point there’s no other flavor but these burgers were great. No over-powering spice and they held together very well, something not easily found in housemade veggie burgers. The hummus was a very nice addition.
We were told by Miranda, the owner, that Burger Up will hopefully open by April 1st. They will also be serving baked fries for those who prefer something hot and crispy on the side.
Future Location of Burger Up:
I haven’t heard about Burger Up yet. Is this the veggie burger they’re planning to serve there?
Burger Up is a new restaurant that will be opening on 12th Avenue South about two blocks down from Frothy Monkey. This is the veggie option.
Awesome! I can’t wait to give them a try but it’ll have to come after Wild Cow. I can’t believe I’ve yet to try that restaurant.

Tried Burger up and was very let down. Food was pretentious and over priced. Let alone not very good. Service was terrible. Owner was very odd. (not in a good way). Doubt anyone wants to spend that much money for a night out eating burgers. If they do,at least they want them to be fabulous. This is not it.
Tried Burger Up with my fiance and we both LOVED the burgers, and the buns, OMG, I don’t know how they do it, but that’s one hell of a bun master they’ve got there! We enjoyed the food so much that we dined there a second time a few days later for a very special Mother’s Day lunch. Granted, the service wasn’t stellar, but hey, they just opened, and the food more than made up for our inexperienced waitress that had never waited tables before. Besides, we found the service more entertaining and comical than anything, and we didn’t even have to drink to have a good time. Our only regret is not going 3 times in one week instead of 2…We’ll gladly pay more for a delicious all natural burger and we’ll definitely visit again soon! We will support them while they work out some obvious kinks! Go Burger Up!
We have made two trips to Burger Up. Our first trip was the week of their opening and we waited 30 minutes before being asked for a drink order. Another 15 passed after ordering drinks and we had not gotten them. We left.
Our second trip was a chance for redemption. We typically don’t go back to a restaurant after a bad experience but we really wanted this place to work. Service was a little snappier this time, but only a little. We received our drinks and ordered. Our burgers were served about an hour after ordering at a time when the restaurant was not busy. They must have been sitting waiting to be brought to us for at least half of that time because they were lightly warm. Overly greasy and served with a tiny handful of slivered potatoes as fries. Not even one potato worth of fries. I had no idea potatoes were so scarce! The prices are way over the mark for the quality and amount of food served. Our second visit will be our last.
It’s OK. It is overpriced though.
