Are you against all forms of hunting? Do you feel differently about people who hunt for food to feed their family and people who hunt for sport just to hang a head on a wall or put a rug on the floor? Are these people any different?

I am against hunting. My dad used to do it, but stopped after I went vegan. He said he can’t bare the thought of killing an innocent animal with his own hands anymore. Of course, he still eats factory farmed meat, but you know, baby steps….
I do think hunting is more humane than factory farming, of course. But it still gives me the creeps. Those animals are just living peaceful, happy lives…if people have problems feeding their families, it’d be affordable to live on beans and whole fruits and veggies.
BTW, I was in Nashville this past weekend, and I stopped in at Trader Joe’s! Loved it! Especially the prices. In some cases, they were way cheaper than Whole Foods…like all the $1.99 salsas! I also bought the famed Beefless Strips, but I’ve yet to try them out.
What I typically find myself wondering is “why do you hunt?” when I think about people I know personally who hunt.
I definitely believe you must examine the motive. Most people I know/hear of, merely hunt for the sport. The idea of actually ‘hunting’ something and killing it gets some people going. I have never supported or liked hunting even before I went veg. It always seemed like an unnecessary activity and like I way to project power over other creatures.
If someone cannot survive w/o hunting, I don’t think it is entirely wrong to kill. However, unless you were lost or found yourself in an accidental place I don’t know why this would be the case.
At one of my blogs, http://thevegansoul.wordpress.com , I recently had a couple of hunting related posts. I’d love to hear what some of you guys think about what I had to say!!! =)
I am not against hunting and find it a more humane way to eat meat than factory farming. I would rather see a hungry family eat meat that was hunted then meat in a factory. Sometimes when I really analize it, I realize that if people didn’t hunt, there would be such a huge overpopulation of animals would be everywhere, i.e. overpopulation of deer where they are everywhere on the highways because they got run over by cars.
Alicia…
Nature has its own way of controlling overpopulation. You are using the false argument hunters use to validate their sport.
